LaPaz is a city of 275,000 people. As discussed in the overview post for the Sea of Cortez, it is a fantastic cruising base. The malecon along the water front goes for several miles, providing a great walk after days at sea. Excellent restaurants and markets are abundant. As a cruising center, a number of our cruising friends were also in the area, allowing us the pleasure of running into a familiar face on the street, at anchor, or even in transiting.
Bronze sculptures celebrating the sea decorate the Malecon at regular intervals. In the background, sail boats fill the anchorage off of the city center.
The Malecon is one of the finest examples of waterfront access we’ve experienced.
Despite the arid climate, colorful flowers provide relief from the desert colors.
We found excellent beef at this small butcher shop. Surprisingly, we also found an outstanding bagel store that also served memorable baguettes.
