Our next goal on what has become the Mexico Gold Coast reunion tour was Ixtapa to rendezvous with our friends Doug and Karrey Rigby. Fortunately for us, the 350 miles of coast from Punta de Mita down to Ixtapa has some of the mainland’s best cruising. Cabo Corrientes is the prominent point on the map below south of Puerto Vallarta. Cabo Corrientes focuses currents and winds and can be tricky to round. We timed our passage to clear Corrientes in the morning when winds are often light.
We spent almost two weeks, from March 15-30, making our way south. Memorable stops included Bahia Tenacatita, known for its dinghy mangrove tour (complete with crocodiles), dinghy surfing, and artesan moonshine and Barra Navidad, known for its french baker (who delivers fresh goodies every morning throughout the marina). Subsequent posts will provide photos and details of these spots.
