Pelican Peloton: A Haiku

Pelicans have been constant companions on our journey.  During our  three months in Newport Beach, California, pelicans occupied every mooring ball in our anchorage.  While the individual pelican at times appears down right goofy (big bill and all), a pelican flock on the wing is a sight to behold.  In formation, they beat their wings a second later than the preceding bird.  Their strategy of drafting behind each other brings to mind elite bicyclists, inspiring the following haiku:

Pelicans

In tight formation,

A pelican peloton,

With grace glides above.
